Key Differences  Between Independent and Assisted Living

“We moved into Copperfield Hill a little over a year ago. We were immediately struck by the friendliness of residents and the kindness of staff. It is clear that the staff works hard ever day to make Copperfield Hill a pleasant, nurturing and fun place to live.”

Whether you are familiar with senior housing or you are just starting to explore your options, it can become overwhelming to dissect the variety of housing options for a 55+ community. Your first step in seeking a new home is to start by asking some questions on how your current day to day activities look.

• Do you desire to join friends for a meal?
• Do you enjoy attending exercise classes and cards?
• Do you want the freedom of having no home maintenance?
• Are you worried about falling in your home without the ability to reach help in a timely fashion?

By answering a few questions, you can start to sift through the best option to suit your wants and needs.

Independent Living is in an apartment-style community. Residents can choose from a one or two bedroom apartment with a full size kitchen. A full time staff is dedicated to providing assistance towards maintaining independence. A maintenance team is built in to assist in home repairs to ease the worries of maintaining a home. The recreation team is charged with creating an array of socialization opportunities:  exercise classes, card clubs, happy hours and scheduled outings. Our dining room is available seven days a week for a continental breakfast with additional meals for lunch and/or dinner with a full menu.

The term Assisted Living has created confusion for many families. Assisted Living is a benefit to allow residents to still live on their own, however, they are requiring some assistance to maintain their independence. Our team is built in and on-site 24 hours a day. The consistency and reassurance of a staff to aid in your safety is a key benefit of Assisted Living. All the benefits of socialization and transportation with Independent Living are consistent in Assisted Living.

Life is a Series of Experiences…

A Timely Message – January 22, 2021

This vaccine will change the world and because of residency in a high priority community, we will be fortunate enough to receive the vaccine sooner than most. I expect that this will bring back normalcy to our lives.

As the founder of Copperfield Hill, and a proud member of our generation, I will be on hand when the providers come to administer the vaccine at Copperfield Hill and be the first to be vaccinated. I have full faith and confidence in the sciences and doctors who have developed this life saving vaccine and want to demonstrate my commitment to you that it is safe and life giving for all the residents of Copperfield Hill. You have shown your faith in our staff and our community by choosing to let us provide for your safety, comfort, wellness and well-being. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

~ Darrel Farr

Ways we are staying connected at Copperfield Hill

There are many ways that Copperfield Hill residents are staying busy during the Quarantine. No doubt, it has been a very challenging time. However, it is essential to keep busy and occupied with stimulating and safe activities that keep us all connected.*

*All activities follow social distancing guidelines.

Here are a few examples:

Outdoor Visitation with Friends and Family.   As of June 23, 2020 – we have welcomed families and friends to come visit their loved ones at Copperfield Hill.  Our policies reflect the guidelines of the Minnesota Department of Health.  We require reservations in advance.  Visits are limited to 2 guests and everyone must be wearing a mask.

Outdoor Concerts. We have had a number of opportunities to welcome live music to our campus.  Music is the universal language of humanity, it is always a very welcome addition to any afternoon.  Pictured below: CODA, Bagpiper and Mary Hall.

Activities Cart Deliveries. Each week our Activities team has been making their rounds around the Lodge and Manor. They have used the carts to call “Hall Bingo”, deliver treats such as ice cream, chips and salsa and even happy hour libations. Beth and Erin are putting miles on their cart to keep in touch with residents and add a little surprise and cheer to their day.
